Pelléas - Pelléas et Mélisande - Opéra National de Paris
28/02/2025 | 09/03/2025 | 12/03/2025 | 15/03/2025 | 18/03/2025 | 20/03/2025 | 25/03/2025 | 27/03/2025
Huw returns to the Opéra de Paris as Pelléas in Debussy’s opera.
Where does Mélisande come from and what did she endure before losing her way in the forest of Allemonde? The drama unfolds in a mysterious world of dark caves and sleeping waters: Pelléas, Golaud’s half-brother, and Mélisande fall in love, arousing the jealousy of Golaud, who has married the young girl.
In 1892, Claude Debussy, very much taken with Maurice Maeterlinck’s play, found it to be the ideal libretto for the musical form he had in mind: a lyric drama in which the characters would sing “like natural people”. Ten years later, this ground-breaking opera was premiered to great scandal.
Wajdi Mouawad explores this fascinating work in his second production for the Paris Opera.
Eisenstein - Die Fledermaus - LMDL
13/12/2024 | 15/12/2024 | 18/12/2024 | 20/12/2024 | 22/12/2024 | 28/12/2024 | 30/12/2024
Huw reprises Eisenstein on tour with Les Musiciens du Louvre.
“Die Fledermaus with Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens du Louvre: This promises fun, musical knowledge and new insights. Strauß and his librettist have oriented themselves on the French theater for their masterpiece. The fact that in the "bat" everyone has a relaxed relationship with everyone has roots up to the Louvre and Versailles. The nobility at the time did not know the sexual promise of loyalty among spouses. The Viennese bourgeoisie a hundred years later wanted to forget it from time to time - at least for an evening in the theater, where it is teeming with barons and princesses, real and false. Minkowski follows these connections with his musicians and takes a fresh look at the classic operetta.”
Italienisches Liederbuch - Wolf
19/11/2024 | 26/11/2024
Huw joins Erin Morley and Malcolm Martineau for a tour of the Italieniches Liederbuch.
“Hugo Wolf remains one of the high points of the entire Lieder tradition, his songs combining sophistication with directness of utterance. Here two admired singers and one of the most experienced of collaborative pianists tackle one of his greatest and most varied compositional achievements.”

Huw makes his house and role debut at the Wiener Staatsoper as Billy Budd.
“This saying of Franz Kafka would be a fitting subtitle to Britten's Billy Budd. If the satanic officer Claggart succeeds in innocently guilty of the beloved, angelic and therefore unsuspecting sailor Billy Budd and thus destroying him.”
Huw will make his house & role debut at the Wiener Staatsoper in the title role of Britten’s opera, Billy Budd.
Wigmore Hall Recital

Huw will join forces with pianist Helio Vida for their joint Wigmore Hall debuts.
The Programme includes works by Finzi, Schoenberg and Mahler.
Guillelmo - Cosi fan Tutte - Edinburgh International Festival
| 10/08/2024 |
Huw reprises the role of Guillelmo in a concert version of Cosi fan Tutte.
“This satirical fable about love and trust unfolds in 18th-century Naples, with a cast of unruly characters who interrogate the absurd logic of desire. A weekend’s worth of romantic entanglements and false identities ensue as the maverick Don Alfonso seeks to prove his unstable hypothesis that women cannot be trusted.
Swinging between wit and sincerity, Così fan tutte was Mozart’s third and final collaboration with librettist Lorenzo da Ponte. The score is one of the composer’s most varied, with iconic ensemble numbers – one of which involves a doctor with magnetic healing powers – contrasting with heartfelt arias such as ‘Un aura amorosa’ and ‘Per pietà’.
After last year's acclaimed The Magic Flute, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Chorus, along with their Principal Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev, further their exploration of Mozart's operas. In this remarkable rendition of one of Mozart’s most varied scores, a remarkable cast of singers join the SCO and Chorus, including the ‘hauntingly mesmerising’ (The Scotsman) Golda Schultz.
Così fan tutte is performed as an opera in concert, with a maximalist approach to vocals, and a minimalist approach to costume and set design”
Die Schöne Müllerin
| 26/07/24 |
Huw joins Graham Johnson for an evening of Schubert as they revisit Die Schöne Müllerin.
“British baritone Huw Montague Rendall has risen to the heights of international fame in only a few years. He has recently made stage debuts at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opéra National de Paris, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, and the Salzburg and Glyndebourne Festivals, earning rapturous acclaim for his compelling artistry, stage craft and musicianship.
Described as "that peerless song accompanist” by the Daily Telegraph, Graham Johnson’s distinguished career, ground-breaking recordings and publications make him one of the most important figures in song today.
Johnson is particularly associated with the music of Franz Schubert. For this concert he joins forces with Rendall to perform 'Die Schöne Müllerin', rightly acknowed as one of the greatest song cycles ever written.
Ticket holders are invited to join Graham Johnson discussing the work, and his career, in a pre-concert talk with Festival Director, Ben Johnson at 6.30pm.”
