Huw will join the Musikkollegium Winterthur to sing Mahler’s song cycle Kindertotenlieder.
German poet Friedrich Rückert, consumed by desperate grief over the loss of his "two dearest and most beautiful children" to scarlet fever, penned 428 heart-wrenching poems known as "Kindertotenlieder" or "Songs on the Death of Children." Gustav Mahler, deeply moved by these poems, fused five of them into a profoundly emotive cycle of orchestral songs. His wife, Alma, exclaimed in agitation at the time, "For God's sake, you're drawing the devil on the wall!" In a cruel twist of fate, the couple lost their own daughter, Anna Justine, a mere two years after the premiere of the "Kindertotenlieder."
